When Warehouses Fly
Don't be afraid to look like a tourist. Don't be afraid to look up. Looking up is what made this picture. It's what makes the warehouse appear to be flying. Thanks to bill barfield for not being afraid.

Listening To A Brick Wall
I love the urbanism here. Classic composition and of course, black-and-white adds so much to it. It could be Los Angeles, or Miami, or New York, but no... it's our own beloved Houston.

It's gonna blow!
When I was in college I had a course about Urban Social Studies. It was one of those typical "white man=bad" college courses that you sit through in order to get the credit so you can get a diploma so you can get a job so you can get a smokin' hot babe to marry you.
This photo reminds me of that course. There was an exercise where dozens of people had chosen to build their homes in the shadow of a chemical plant, and the plant's emissions were hurting them and they deserved millions of dollars in "reparations" for choosing to live next to the chemical plant instead of other neighborhoods where the housing was more affordable.
This photo shows that exact same thing happening right here in Houston! That horrible toxic waste factory is spewing carcinogens into the atmosphere and poisoning the water that puppies play in! Puppies! Won't someone think of the puppies!
Wait... it's a giant coffee roaster? It's the Maxwell House plant?
Nevermind.

Snow Day i
Highway6 reminds us that winter's not over yet! Sure, this is a picture of the Great Houston Blizzard of 2008, but it's still only January -- plenty of time for a freak storm to hit the Bayou City.

Is that the best you can do?
Telwink took this picture of a house in River Oaks just before Christmas. He's impressed with the lot size and how the expanse of lawn makes the house look small.
I can't help but think that if you can afford to have someone mow all that lawn, certainly you can afford better than a $4.99 Walgreen's Christmas light girdle for your trees.

Party at telwink's house!
No, just kidding. This isn't his home. It's a house in River Oaks with a lot so wide that it took six shots with a wide-angle lens to get it all in one panorama!

Williams Tower as seen by hippies
At first glance it looks like something that would be painted on the walls of a day care center, but this undulating landscape is made of actual photographs by telwink. Both the Williams Tower and the water wall are squished into fantasy shapes.

Blue squares
Telwink is at it again -- showing us those crisp blue Texas skies. This time they're mirrored in the lesser-seen portion of Reliant Energy Plaza at Lamar and LaBranch.

Shiny Things
Bill barfield uses the Galleria arches to frame the neighborhood's architecture. It's a great use of perspective.

Snow Day ii
It's a bad time to be a plant in Houston. Even the tropical plants aren't safe from the snow anymore.
Highway6 took this picture in Discovery Green where the eerie colors help highlight this unusual event.

What telwink does for you
HAIF pool member telwink risked life and limb (ok... a trespassing charge) to get this shot of the Cáceras development. Looks a little art deco, and a little Mediterranean. It's nice to see some shots from outside the Loop for a change!

Puffy clouds at night
Once again, telwink amazes with his photography after dark. This time it's a 180º view of AMLI on Memorial Drive. I love the puffy nocturnal clouds.

Another one by bill barfield. This one looks like some kind of wooden explosion. Nice job desaturating the wood in order to draw the eye into the center.

Main Street, Houston
Bill barfield perched in the Main Street median to get this shot with the Metro Red Line streaking past him on the left. Great colors and great red/blue color contrasts.
